You know Mal, you know more about American's history than a lot of American born citizens do. You're spot on about Jefferson. The Christian right believes this is a Christian nation, "founded on Christian principles," Whatever their definition of "principles" is. The fact is, there is absolutely NO mention of god, Jesus, Christianity, or the bible in the U.S. constitution. The ideas "all men are created equal" and "freedom of religion" and "freedom of speech" and "freedom of assembly" and to air grievances against the powers that be are not Christian principles or based on the bible. The bible is very authoritarian in its world view, particularly the Old Testament.
I am voting for Obama and a big reason is that I believe he will restore diplomatic relations around the world that we've lost since George W. Bush has been in power.
