Not sure but I know what u mean, one particular person springs to mind for me but I wont bore u with the details, just cant understand why ppl are nice to your face but stab you in the back at the first opportunity.
I think it must have something to do with them feeling very insecure abt themselves.

You are right, very often, when people feel insecure, they feel a need to be 'nasty' to those who are usually close to them...
