I woke up thinking of her (an ex I haven't seen in over 20 years) thanks to a recurring dream that revolves around the fact that I cant call her. I have it regularly. I physically cant call the number. like my fingers wont work. Its stupid, but hey, that is what dreams are right. They make absolutely no sense, but still have some underlying meaning. I just know I wake up missing her and it stays with me all day.

What could this dream possibly mean. I would appreciate your feedback.

What I think may explain this dream is something that is currently happening in your life now is similiar to something that occured 20 years ago when you were with that woman.

It could be a current relationship? The part where your fingers can't dial the phone may be a metaphpore for not being able to connect or communicate affectively.

I guess that sometimes our brains are like old filing cabinets and our subcoscious goes through all the folders from time to time, then comes across a file with a person inside you haven't seen in ages and thinks it wouldn't mind an update so it makes you dream about them - and of course it would be difficult to contact them because you don't have their number or know where they live, and you probably aren't sure what they even look like now.

I suppose if it keeps happening you could always try to get in touch with them to resolve the dream?

I know this may draw some criticism but I am married, happily, for the last 14 years to a wonderful woman, but my thoughts keep drifting back to her. I can't seem to shake her out of my head.

Perhaps there is something about your wife's personality that you feel is lacking and that you liked about your ex-girlfriend. It could be something like your girlfriend was intellectually stimulating or loved to go out and have a good time and your wife is more of a homebody--that sort of thing.
