I was reading an article, which in the dream was happening in front of me at the same time that I was reading it, about this weird medical condition that people were coming down with in which an eye would fill up with fluid and that someone else would have to squeeze the fluid out.

Fortunately, I didn’t have this condition, but I did see a couple of people having their eyes squeezed.

The fluid that was in people’s eyes was called peptic acid.

After I woke up, I realised that peptic acid is really stomach acid.

I think I caught a form of that disease last week. I went to a restaurant and I think my eyes were bigger than my belly. I must have ate too much because I came home and threw up.

Here the emotional problem pertains to the eye, i.e. to the issue of seeing, understanding and believing. The problem occurs when an individual’s ability to see and understand and to believe becomes overly influenced by too much emotion or imagination. (an eye would fill up with fluid ) This problem can only be solved by having someone else put pressure upon what is seen, understood and believed.

Your reading of this condition – implying also your understanding of this condition – does not appear to prevent it from happening. (I was reading an article, which in the dream was happening in front of me at the same time ) As all people in a dream represent emotional/ psychological aspects of oneself, this would imply that your understanding that this problem can occur has not prevented it from happening also to aspects of yourself. (medical condition that people were coming down with) However, you do not see – or believe? – that you have been similarly affected. (I didn’t have this condition) But, you can or need to, see or believe that certain aspects of the self require the pressure treatment. (did see a couple of people having their eyes squeezed.)

The fact that the liquid in the eye was called peptic acid can suggest that what you see or believe has been given the “acid test” – a sure test, giving an incontestable result. However as you noted, peptic acid is found in the stomach. This strongly hints at the idea that the acid test being given where understandings and beliefs are concerned consists mainly of whether the food for thought can be stomached. Can the food for thought be digested or understood and provide emotional satisfaction? Herein lies the real problem. The eye is not meant to function as a stomach. What we end up understanding and believing cannot be based on whether we obtain emotional satisfaction from our understanding or belief.

Sorry, I should have explained that the above is normal for my dreams. It's just part of lucid dreaming, which is how I usually dream.

I frequently have dreams where I'm reading an article or watching a TV show about something and the action is taking place in front of me "for real" at the same time I am reading about it or watching it on TV and I can change the "real" action by changing the words on the paper or changing the plot of the TV program.

Marcia, your explanation regarding what is normal for your dreams would not have changed anything as for the interpretation of the dream. Whether a dream is the normal variety or what people call a lucid dream, the way events play out in the dream still have a similar meaning. There is much misunderstanding pertaining to lucid dreams.

I complained that the chicken looked pink. The cook assured the waitress that it was the lighting in the restaurant and that it looked fine to her. So I'm thinking it was the chicken. I won't eat there again.
