Default Riding the wind

I've never had a desire to sky dive, bungee jump, or anything that remotely involves falling. I've never had a flying dream. I haven't had a recurring dream since I was a child. Yet, this past week, I've had a dream where I ride the wind a number of times.

The dream starts where I'm on an island in New England that I'm very familiar with. Once, I was with a group of strangers, but usually I'm with friends and family, including friends who live on the island. The lead up events are different every night. It's cool and gray, but pleasant, and as our day goes on we end up in this beautiful, sort of mountainous area that meets the sea or maybe a furious river with rapids and white caps. This totally inconsistent with the actual landscape of the island. Everything in the setting is gray, dark green, dark blue, or white. We at some point are submerged in the water (we swim or wade), and at another point are on some sort of suspension bridge above it. From there, we step off (and do not plummet at all) and ride the wind in small groups (my friends and I are split among groups of tourists.) It's deliberate, and my companions and I seem to be controlling our ride. Still, it seems like I am always vulnerable to the wind, that it might overpower us, and it makes me a little nervous. We ride up and down, dunk in the water and out again. (One time, there was a strange focus on our shoes and trying to get them wet or keep them dry...) The wind is strong and far more powerful than us, swirling is like we are falling leaves, even though it appears we have some control. Somehow, we are always gently lowered to safety.

After these dreams, I wake up drenched in sweat, even though I wasn't "scared" per se. Something about it is haunting me. Any ideas of what is going on here?

I should add that last night, I dreamt of most of my nearest and dearest. Prior to the wind riding, I forgot that I tried to set up a bunch of friends getting together. When my first friend showed up, who lives far away from me in real life, she couldn't look me in the eye, nor I her. We then both started to cry. It was definitely not joy, nor sorrow from being apart. It was a mystery to my conscious self why, but my dream self knew. The rest of my friends showed up, and everything was happy and care free from there.

It sounds like you might be going through some change in your life that is affecting you powerfully.

Bodies of water in dreams can represent your emotions, so the furious river could mean that you are feeling emotional turmoil for some reason.

The suspension bridge is a sign that despite any difficulties, you are confident that you will eventually arrive successfully at your next stage in life . (Suspension = being above it all?)

Shoes can also symbolise going on a journey - your path in life.
