I almost always dream about my old childhood home "96th Street" and the old schools I've gone to.

What I find interesting is that in my dreams, all my childhood schools are usually mixed together with attributes all of them in one building.

Anyway, in the school dreams I'm usually just roaming around the school, traveling up and down the back stairway a lot. in the dream I'm just going on different floors walking around the school and having normal situations happen. A lot of times in the back stairway give me this this eerie feeling.

When I wake up I usually actually enjoy thinking about these dreams. I do really love my childhood though I strangely don't remember much about it. I don't know why. I'm 19 now.

Now the latest dream I had about this, the ending went as follows. A janitor was using the school elevator (a junky employees only elevator) and he was giving me a lift down a few floors, as I got off I remembered I needed to go to one more floor and he was kind of annoyed with me for making him do the favor again.

So he tried to make the elevator come down enough for me to fit in, he went up and down trying to make a big enough entrance for me to fit in when suddenly the elevator just fell. I heard chains being pulled. I ran down the back stairway and saw the entire chain system that was holding the elevator being pulled and untangled. I was convinced he was gonna die and couldn't believe i was about to get on that thing. i ran down the back stairway out of the school because I feared the results of the impact when the elevator finally dropped to it's last floor.


Any idea what this could mean and what it is with the back stairway. I was kind of afraid of the back stairway in my childhood schools, they were always a bit creepy. But i don't remember much, certianly not sure why they show up in my dreams still and so often.

In your dreams, you are trying to relive the school experience. For almost your entire life up until about a year ago, you had “school” to go to. Because you’re recently out of school, you probably miss the support system of your friends and teachers there and the structure that that environment provided.
I’m guessing that maybe you’re not enrolled in any kind of college or community college or vocational training right now. Perhaps it’s a lack of direction in your life that is making you reminiscence about your school days.
In your dream, you wanted the elevator guy to take you to one more floor. You know like you wanted to go to school a little bit more. After you graduated high school, it’s like the world just dropped you off just like an elevator dropping. Perhaps, the back stairway represents your future and you feel anxiety about it. Maybe you should look into taking some classes at a community college. Maybe take some AutoCAD/drafting classes. Those jobs pay pretty well.

Thanks so much! Actually I'm still in school atm. I've had these dreams for a long time, even in my early teen years, before the ending of school. I sort of remember fearing the back stairways in my schools but I don't quite remember why. Thanks a lot for the interpretation though with out me specifying about things and seeing my age I can see how you came up with this interpretation.

Well, the dreams could still have to do with memories of your past, thinking about what is changing in your life and what you are going to lose and what you are going to gain.

The eerie back stairways make me think of bad things from your past that you are repressing.

A janitor is someone who cleans up messes. Your trying to avoid asking the janitor again makes me think of avoiding taking the trouble to clean up a mes that has been created or to admit that it exists, which leads to things going out of control (the falling elevator).

Schools could also have to do with the idea that there is something you need to learn.
