Then I'm traveling through a strange town where I see huge round clown heads of all sorts like this:



but the size of billboards.

Then one of them is chasing us, me and the young man, across a wobbly bridge. Then the clown head breaks apart on the bridge to the sounds of audience laughter .

Yes, because they are grotesque exaggerations of what people are supposed to be like.

Maybe that's a clue?

Clowns don't freak me out like they do some people. My sister gets freaked about them.

A gross exaggeration. Interesting. Their body movements are exaggerated, but they don't talk. My sister gets freaked about mimes too.

I'm thinking maybe it isn't a gross exaggeration of what people should be, but they actually lack that human element of deep emotionally communication. All show and no substance.

Your thoughts helped me on that one. I think that's why clowns have such a nightmarish quality to them to most people (especially in dreams). They lack that human quality that makes them, well, human. Their faces are plastered over to look like a doll or toy.

I saw an episode of a show called CSI: Criminal Investigations. In one show, a woman became sexually attracted to the clown at her daughters birthday party and seduced him later while he was still in his full get-up. Anyway, her husband walked in on them and he killed the clown. Then they covered up the crime.

Laughing, I asked my sister the next day, "Did you watch CSI last night?" Judging from the look on her face, I knew she had and she said, "That was just sick."
